WITSML™, the Wellsite Information Transfer Standard Markup Language, is the Energistics' family of energy industry standards for the Drilling domain. Energistics™ is a global consortium. Energistics is uniquely designed to unite industry people, issues and ideas to collaboratively address E&P information challenges and opportunities.

WITSML Overview

BP and Statoil started development of new standards for drilling information transfer in 2000, along with BakerHughes, Halliburton, and Schlumberger. Since early 2003, Energistics, then POSC, received custody and began managing the future evolution of the standards. The objective of WITSML is the right-time, seamless flow of well data between operators and service companies to speed and enhance decision making.
